There are no architectural standards concerning readability for large dimensional characters applied to buildings and freestanding signs on exterior sites. However, they do affect the ability of people with sensory disabilities as they navigate large sites to find their way on city streets and around large campuses. Fire fighters and first responders need building numbers and names they can read easily, as well. At H Toji we urge our clients to move beyond minimum compliance to looking at all parts of the sign system as part of effective wayfinding.
